What's New at Life & Style? Couture in the City Fashion Blog

What's new this week at Life & Style? You can bet that they have pin pointed the hottest trends that your stars are rockin' this summer so you know what's in. It is my happy duty to report that nautical stripes are still on trend, but you don't have to limit yourself to navy blue. Vanessa Minillo was seen wearing a red and white striped tank with cut-off jean shorts and looks ready for the Fourth of July!

Okay, so you have a hundred pairs of dangly earrings and four or five pairs of sunglasses (white frames from last season, classic Jackie O's, avaitors, Wayfarers from this season) but maybe it has never dawned on you to make sure that your styles in eyewear and earwear match. Really, think about it...wayfarers with diamond drop earrings? I don't think so. Life & Style shows you how celebs perferctly balance their bling and their UV protection which staying trendy and chic.

Who got it right? Life & Style poses this question to show you just how versatile fashion really is. It always amazes me how two different celebs can put their own spin on a piece and make it look so different. This weeks' standout to me was the red peep toe shoe face off between the ex-Mrs. Manson, Dita Von Teese, and Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham. To me, red peep toe heels with an ankle strap are just more appropriate on a 1940's rockabilly burlesque dancer than a former pop star.

Sunscreen, towel, impressively intelligent beach read...check, check and check! If you are heading out to catch some rays this summer, then don't pass up the chance to get yourself a totally cute beach bag (and a cute cover up for that matter, for Pete's sake Kiki Dunst, get rid of the flannel and use a pareo!). For me, it's wicker and natural weave totes all the's just so reminiscent of the islands. Check out Life & Style for more info on where to get the hottest selling bags.

The stars are coming out dressed to the nines to walk the red carpet at Cannes and Life & Style has picked the winners! Well, the most fashionable winners Cannes, it seemed to be that a little bit of shimmer, a simple color and a great cut made for a fabulous frock. A standout among the crowd? Angelina Jolie's yellow Emauel Ungaro dress is so fresh for summer, and a great change for Jolie, who usually opts for darker colors.

Just when I was about to donate my denim skirt from a few years ago to charity...they're baaack. Like almost every style in the revolving door of fashion, jean skirts are constantly on again and off again. While most stars like Reese Witherspoon are saving their jean skirts for running errands and casual daywear, Alexis Bledel wore hers to a charity event. Jean skirts are fun and easy for summer and can be paired with almost maybe a striped tank?

If you have ever had the inner urge to be a Las Vegas showgirl, then now is the time to add a little piece of glitz to your wardrobe. While stars can get away with it on the red carpet, in real life a glitzy mini may not translate well. If you love the look but are hsitant, instead, try a cute glitzy clutch for evening. For more great celebrity fashion news and gossip, keep checking in with Life & Style!

And it Was all Yellow, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Angelina Jolie

Eva Mendes

Rosario Dawson (source)

One of the sunniest ways to dress up your summer wardrobe is with a yellow dress. Celebrities are hooked on this trend from the red carpet to a casual brunch, this is THE big hue of the season.

Yellow is by no means a popular color historically when it comes to's a difficult pigment for most to pull off. However, if you have a great glow from a summer tan, then this is the perfect time to try out this trend. If you are looking for an interesting option to wear to a wedding, birthday party or family gathering this summer, then try a yellow dress.

Think that you are too pale for yellow? Not so...if you are fair, then opt for darker shades of yellow and you may be pleasantly surprised that it won't wash you out. Don't be afraid to try out all different shades to see what works best for you. Stay away from patterns if you are worried about trying this trend, and instead look for interesting clean cuts. We like this super soft, feminine and comfortable dress from Yu Clothing:

Left of Center Swimwear:Misha Barton, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Mischa Barton (source)

It's official...Mischa Barton has been raiding my closet, circa 1994. Although my bathing suit had a little bit of floral infusion, it was very similar to the one she is wearing here. Mischa is notorious for her daring and sometimes questionable fashion choices, be they high waisted pants or see through chain mail dresses, so this is tame in comparison. Though this is not our favorite swimsuit of the season, we have to give Miss. Barton some snaps for not being afraid to wear what she wants and not what everyone else is wearing.

With that in mind, we think that Mischa would appreciate the Geftaki Swimsuit line. With bold accessories and cuts that you won't find just anywhere, they have the perfect swimsuits for those that march to the beat of their own fashion drummer. We can just picture her in this super cute shorts cover up in "sailor" (navy blue) and also available in "creamsicle." Check out Geftaki Swimsuits on for yourself and see why they make the perfect addition to your indie summer wardrobe.

What's New This Week at Life & Style? Couture in the City Fashion Blog

What a fabulous week for gossip and fashion! And Life & Style has all the latest news that you are dying to read about. This week's cover features a newly svelte Tyra Banks...we love her no matter what her size, but find out her diet and workout secrets for a fab top model bod. Also, take a peek inside to see why Jessica Simpson and John Mayer really broke up.

So many trends, but only seven days...Life & Style shows you what the stars have been wearing this week so you can be up on the latest trends yourself. While I am on the fence with Lauren Conrad's plaid frock (love the cut, but the print is a little too country bumpkin for my tastes), I am absolutely loving Kylie Minoque's shirt dress and Amanda Byne's Stuart Weitzman mini bag.

Life & Style has found the perfect sized bag for celebs and working girls on the go! YSL's Downtown Tote has a bucket shape and comes in a variety of colors that celebs just can't get enough of. With the perfect amount and size of pockets, it has room for your bottled water, your Blackberry, and whatever else you need without looking like a giant duffle bag. At almost $1,800, it's priced for a celebrity, but Life & Style tells you where to find lookalikes at working girl prices.

A pocket in a formal dress? Who knew? I am absolutely in love with Rosario Dawson's creme colored Diaphanous gown, but am still puzzled by the need for pockets in a red carpet gown. Oh well...I guess it's a good place to put your lipstick or credit card if you don't feel like carrying a bag.

They're baaack...wedges are hot again this summer, and we can totally see why. Providing all the oomph and twice the comfort of stilleto's, wedges are feminine and fun. With a flirty summer dress or a pair of jeans and a dressy top, wedges are the perfect way to accent your wardrobe. Check out Life & Style every week for up to the minute information on all your favorite stars and to see the latest trends and more!

The Black and White Stripes, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Nelly Furtado (source)

Lindsay Lohan (source)

Gwen Stefani (source)

Stars are simply eating up the black and white stripe trend. While I prefer my stripes to be a little more subtle, everyone from Nelly Furtado to Lindsay Lohan and Gwen Stefani are strutting their stuff, referee style.

Out of all three of these ensembles, I think that I love Nelly Furtado's geometrical tube dress the best. Bold stripes like these are usually hard to pull off (for example, if you don't have a rockin' bod like Gwen Stefani, her single sleeve striped dress wouldn't be so flattering). Nelly's tube dress is bold, but not over the top and would be fun to wear on a Saturday night. While I'm also not too crazy about Lindsay Lohan's belly baring sequined stripe top, I think that if you are going to do this trend, a top is the way to do it.

If you want to go for an edgy black and white stripe look, then try the Rock the Mic top from Kahri. Cute with skinny jeans and flats or a pencil skirt and stiletto's, this is the perfect way to marry Gwen Stefani quirk with trendy fashion.

Rock the Mic Cropped Top from Kahri, $70.00

What do you think about the black and white stripe trend? Is it too much on a formal dress, or too cute?
