Yes Fall is just around the corner. Alas if we are lucky we will have a glimpse of an Indian summer breaking into September up into early October. Leave your chain wallets and spike-studded go-go boots back in 1997…the new goth is more fabulous fierce than Marilyn Manson couture. For Fall ‘08, instead venture to the dark side with caged high-heels, dark textured tights and vintage inspired lace. Oh yeah, and a latex mini for the truly daring.
Surprised that goth has made a comeback? Don’t be…Mary Kate Olsen has been doing it since last year, and black and navy nail polish were also big back then as well. It was only a matter of time, really. While this look is not ideal for everyone (I’m more into color, thank you very much), brave fashionista’s can really take advantage of this vampy style and go all-out, or just add a few macabre elements to their current look.

If you buy one item for your fall wardrobe, I beg you to buy some dark textured tights. Tights are an inexpensive way to add interest to anything you already have in your closet, and look extra fierce when paired with a caged sandal (see above). Go get some right now, I mean it.
Rummage through your wardrobe and pull out your black wrap dresses, billowy white shirts, vintage cardigans, pearls, cameo pendants, chunky black or white rings and leave color out of this look. Top it all off with a handbag that’s heavy on the hardware and you’ve got one smokin’ “new goth” ensemble. Try it out for yourself, unless you’re afraid of the dark, that is.

My favorite new twist on this hot again trend is the belted look. Blake lively turns an average blue dress into something fabulous with a simple cinch of the belt. For a more off-beat look, opt for a cap sleeve, like on Rachel Bilson. One of my favorite ways to wear the one-shoulder look is the "Grecian goddess" style, like on Jenny McCarthy. Gauzy fabrics and pleated gathers make for an ethereal yet sophisticated look on a one-shoulder dress.

Hot Summer Trends: How to Wear Maxi Dresses

Ok…I’m going to be honest; this is not one of the easiest trends to pull off. Maxi dresses are all the rage right now, and you can find them everywhere from Old Navy to Target on the low end to upscale designer styles. While these flowy frocks seem like they would be the answer for all of us body conscious girls (goodbye thunder thighs!), the wrong print or cut could have your dress looking one step away from a house coat.

This being said, I love a good maxi dress; they are ethereal, bohemian and not to mention, comfy. Not only that, but they are the perfect cover up for trendanista mom’s-to-be. If you are brave enough to try this trend, here are a few tips on how to wear a maxi dress:

1) Get a good cut: if you have an ample top, make sure the girls aren’t spilling out everywhere, and that’s just for starters. Make sure your waist is still defined, whether with an empire style or with a belt, and make sure that your not going to trip over a too-long hemline.

2) Prints: beware of busy prints that induce headaches or blurry vision, because that’s a lot of fabric to deal with. If you are particularly unsure or self-conscious, go with a solid print maxi dress to start.

3) Accessorize: another reason to go with a solid colored maxi dress is that it is going to be the easiest to accessorize with. Long necklaces, scarves, and look-at-me handbags go great with a maxi dress. Still not sure what to wear those trendy gladiator sandals with? Try them with a maxi dress to double up on trends.

If you are still not sure, then get yourself an inexpensive solid colored maxi dress and wear it as a cover up to the beach or the pool and give it a test drive. If you decide that the longer style isn’t for you, cut it to just above knee length and repurpose it into a sun dress. Either way, experiment and have fun! My MAC-over with the MAC Fafi Collection

1) First, I started with the MAC Fafi lipstick in Utterly Frivolous, then topped it off with MAC Fafi lipglass in Totally It. As any makeup maven knows, a good lip gloss is hard to come by, and this one is one of the best. It stayed put without being sticky for hours and kept it’s bright hue.

2) Next, I brushed the apples of my cheeks with the MAC Fafi powder blush in Fashion Frenzy. This is the perfect blush for spring and is subtle and girly.

3) Finally, I used my beloved paint MAC Fafi paint pots (highly pigmented eye color) in Perky (pink) and Rollickin’ (turquoise) to shade my eyes. I’ve never used these two colors together on my lids and they truly made my hazel eyes pop!

There are so many! I love the easy styling of Alexander Wang, the dressed-down pretty of Philip Lim, the kooky color combinations of Marni, the humble spirit of 45RPM, the arty celebration of Miu Miu…I could go on and on.

What are your favorite fabrics to work with?

We love anything with texture.

If you could have one dream celebrity spokesmodel for your line, who would it be?

How To Wear Fall Fashion's Top Trends

Michael Macko, men's fashion director of Saks Fifth Avenue, is rarely shocked by what comes down the runway during fashion shows.

"Menswear," he explains, "is so slow to change. [It's] very conservative."

Not so this fall.

"Designers are doing something different," he says. "I was taken by the extremes this season--and how designers dared to be theatrical."

New looks, though, pose risks: What won applause on the runway can get you hooted off the stage of real life. Says David Wolfe, creative director of The Doneger Group, a fashion-forecasting firm in New York City, "For the designers, it's an exciting time; but for consumers, figuring out how to wear these trends without looking foolish can be problematic."

Tips For Top Looks
Sweaters with big snowflakes on the sleeves, geometric patterns on jackets, shirts and pants in shockingly bold colors--these and other trends this fall in men's and women's fashion aren't the easiest to wear. Before you put your social or professional reputation at risk by adopting them wholesale, consider if the more reasonable approach isn't to integrate a few gradually, bit by bit, into your wardrobe.

Take color: Bright hues have traditionally been used sparingly in men's wear, mainly in accessories that accent a wardrobe: ties, say, or pocket squares. But this season, "tonal dressing" is all the rage.

Designers have created outfits--shirts, jackets, ties and other accessories--all in the same hue. The idea is that you, once gussied up, would look like the Sherman Williams color wheel: a single dominant color expressed in several different shades.

"If you walk through any major store, you will see retailers displaying light green shirts with darker green jackets while mixing a tie from the same color family," says New York celebrity stylist Robert Verdi. "It may seem like an easy way to buy your clothes, but it can get tricky. [Always have] one dominant hue in the family and then incorporate other lighter hues around it. For example, you could wear a light purple shirt and combine a deep purple tie and have the outfit look completely polished."

If you intend ever to visit the M&M Bar in Butte, Mont., we'd say go easy on this trend. And maybe start with a different color.

Yellow--blindingly bright yellow--was the color most au courant on this fall's runways. There were yellow jackets, yellow sweaters, yellow pants. But to wear all-yellow in real life is to risk being mistaken for a crossing guard or perhaps the Gorton's Fisherman of Gloucester. Instead try wearing one bright piece; a scarf, a pair of gloves or a dark jacket with yellow piping. Combine it with a pair of jeans or a casual pair of dark twill pants, and you'll look natty (not batty).

For women, color will be more restrained and muted, with grays predominating. There's no women's trend comparable to the "one tone with variations" one for men. Just as well, since gray-on-ash-on-silver makes anyone look drab and boring.

Joanne Stoner, chief executive of online retailer Edressme.com, suggests women incorporate a gray dress or jacket into their fall wardrobe, pairing it with dark pants or dark leggings.

For men, an "après ski" look promises to be big this fall. Example: the ski suit seen at Prada runway presentation in Milan earlier this summer, which displayed leggings and a huge fur lined jacket. But wearing this to the office will only temp co-workers to make mean cracks ("Hey, Ed, how about schussing over here with those reports?") Less is more with après-ski: Let one piece suffice--a fair isles sweater, say, or a puffy jacket.

Likewise, geometric patterns are a big trend in both men's and women's wear. You run the risk of looking a fool, though, if you wear too loud a print in too conservative an office. And to wear more than one patterned item at a time is definitely a no-no: You'll look like a test-pattern.

If you're the kind of person whose thoughts turn, with the advent of autumn leaves, more to cocoa than to kindling, how hard should you strain to stay abreast of fall's fashion trends?

Not too.

"If a trend makes you look older, heavier or unattractive, that's when you have to draw the line," says Verdi. "Clothes are supposed to enhance your look and make you feel better. If it detracts from your main mission, don't wear it!"

In the upcoming holiday issue of Details magazine the cerebral Belgian designer on barbecue, black tie, and how to dress your kids.

1.
Gay men and straight men dress nearly the same now. Young people pick up styles of clothing without saying “This is too gay” or “This is too straight.”

2.
I have as much respect for somebody who knows how to cook perfectly on a barbecue as I do for a three-star chef. I don’t have respect for people who say “I’m not interested in food and wine,” because those are some of the joys of life.

3.
Everybody dresses the way they want to dress. David Beckham—he’s trying very hard. I’m not so fond of his look, but I think a lot of people consider it extremely stylish. So who am I to say it’s unstylish? I’m not a dictator.

4.
Kids should be dressed as kids, not as little grown-ups.

5.
Listen to what other people are saying about the way you dress, because in the end, fashion is a way of communicating. When you get your message wrong, it’s good that the people around you let you know.

6.
Smell is important. I love perfume, but the moment that you can smell it from far away, I don’t like it anymore. It has to be discreet.

7.
I don’t like it when men purposely dress incorrectly at a formal event. When it’s black tie, I dress black tie. But I give it my own personal twist.

8.
I like to wander around a city and pop into stores when I’m traveling. I try not to go back to the places I’ve found. I prefer to keep the memory of the magical moment I first walked in.

9.
I wear my hair short. I always go to the same hairdresser, who cuts it in 10 minutes. I love that. I’ve been going to him for 25 or 30 years now.

10.
You shouldn’t have a completely vintage look. Fashion has to move forward. We can’t live in the past.

Call it a monopoly on the fashion industry...Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are now appealing to almost everyone in the fashion world. Best known for their popular line of clothes for young girls and pre-teens at Wal-Mart (and of course for their long run on TGIF and for producing a gazillion movies and television shows for younger viewers), now their older big sisters' can get a little taste of Olsen style too.

Recently MK and Ash debuted a new line called Elizabeth and James, named after their younger siblings. This line is said to be "more affordable" than Ashley's other women's line, The Row, which offers truly upscale ready to wear items. Elizabeth and James will be launched this fall at stores like Neiman Marcus, Intermix and Bergdorf Goodman, with t-shirts starting at around $40.

While sometimes MK and Ash have questionable fashion taste for their own personal style (bag lady couture, goth vamp and trashy college student are only a few appropriate adjectives to describe their look), I think that Elizabeth and James will be fabulous. When the Olsen twins first started to become more visible around 2003, they were fresh-faced and totally cute, so I know that deep down, they have good style, and maybe they are just trying to find themselves through fashion.

This unique charm is what allows Seaton to carve its own niche in the crowded marketplace, offering consumers a fresh new shopping experience.

The Seaton Flagship location, which is located at 8920 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood (across from Maxfield’s), is the first of many Seaton locations that will open over the next few years.

Somewhere between robin's egg and turquoise is electric blue, and celebs are flocking to this hue in a big way. An unusual color for summer, electric blue has become a staple with the Hollywood elite on the red carpet and on the streets. Whether it's a daring halter dress like on Chloe Sevigny or a casual tunic like seen on Kate Hudson, there seems to be no limits to where this color can go.

For me, there is something about this color that hearkens back to the late 1980's and early 1990's...it's almost neon in nature. This used to be one of my favorite colors to wear in scrunchie and sock form, and I am pleased to see its' return. This is actually a fabulous color for a variety of skin tones, and is especially great for showing of a summer glow.

What's new this week at Life & Style? You can bet that they have pin pointed the hottest trends that your stars are rockin' this summer so you know what's in. It is my happy duty to report that nautical stripes are still on trend, but you don't have to limit yourself to navy blue. Vanessa Minillo was seen wearing a red and white striped tank with cut-off jean shorts and looks ready for the Fourth of July!

Okay, so you have a hundred pairs of dangly earrings and four or five pairs of sunglasses (white frames from last season, classic Jackie O's, avaitors, Wayfarers from this season) but maybe it has never dawned on you to make sure that your styles in eyewear and earwear match. Really, think about it...wayfarers with diamond drop earrings? I don't think so. Life & Style shows you how celebs perferctly balance their bling and their UV protection which staying trendy and chic.

Who got it right? Life & Style poses this question to show you just how versatile fashion really is. It always amazes me how two different celebs can put their own spin on a piece and make it look so different. This weeks' standout to me was the red peep toe shoe face off between the ex-Mrs. Manson, Dita Von Teese, and Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham. To me, red peep toe heels with an ankle strap are just more appropriate on a 1940's rockabilly burlesque dancer than a former pop star.

Sunscreen, towel, impressively intelligent beach read...check, check and check! If you are heading out to catch some rays this summer, then don't pass up the chance to get yourself a totally cute beach bag (and a cute cover up for that matter, for Pete's sake Kiki Dunst, get rid of the flannel and use a pareo!). The stars are coming out dressed to the nines to walk the red carpet at Cannes and Life & Style has picked the winners! Well, the most fashionable winners anyway...at Cannes, it seemed to be that a little bit of shimmer, a simple color and a great cut made for a fabulous frock. A standout among the crowd? Angelina Jolie's yellow Emauel Ungaro dress is so fresh for summer, and a great change for Jolie, who usually opts for darker colors.

Just when I was about to donate my denim skirt from a few years ago to charity...they're baaack. Like almost every style in the revolving door of fashion, jean skirts are constantly on again and off again. While most stars like Reese Witherspoon are saving their jean skirts for running errands and casual daywear, Alexis Bledel wore hers to a charity event. Jean skirts are fun and easy for summer and can be paired with almost anything...like maybe a striped tank?

If you have ever had the inner urge to be a Las Vegas showgirl, then now is the time to add a little piece of glitz to your wardrobe. While stars can get away with it on the red carpet, in real life a glitzy mini may not translate well. If you love the look but are hsitant, instead, try a cute glitzy clutch for evening. It's official...Mischa Barton has been raiding my closet, circa 1994. Although my bathing suit had a little bit of floral infusion, it was very similar to the one she is wearing here. Mischa is notorious for her daring and sometimes questionable fashion choices, be they high waisted pants or see through chain mail dresses, so this is tame in comparison. Though this is not our favorite swimsuit of the season, we have to give Miss. Barton some snaps for not being afraid to wear what she wants and not what everyone else is wearing.

Stars are simply eating up the black and white stripe trend. While I prefer my stripes to be a little more subtle, everyone from Nelly Furtado to Lindsay Lohan and Gwen Stefani are strutting their stuff, referee style.

Out of all three of these ensembles, I think that I love Nelly Furtado's geometrical tube dress the best. Bold stripes like these are usually hard to pull off (for example, if you don't have a rockin' bod like Gwen Stefani, her single sleeve striped dress wouldn't be so flattering). Nelly's tube dress is bold, but not over the top and would be fun to wear on a Saturday night. While I'm also not too crazy about Lindsay Lohan's belly baring sequined stripe top, I think that if you are going to do this trend, a top is the way to do it.

If you want to go for an edgy black and white stripe look, then try the Rock the Mic top from Kahri. Cute with skinny jeans and flats or a pencil skirt and stiletto's, this is the perfect way to marry Gwen Stefani quirk with trendy fashion.

This weekend, a newly blonde again Cameron Diaz stepped out in a super cute Kelly Bergin minidress over skinny Corpus jeans. Now, normally, this look would irk me, and I would scold Cameron for hiding her obviously killer legs when she could be showing them off.

However, I think that for once, I actually like the dress over jeans combo in this case. Why does it work? Well, for one, Cam's mini is just that, mini, and doesn't have a whole lot of volume or extra fabric. It's a cute, solid colored streamlined minidress that isn't flowy and has just enough detail at the neckline to keep you interested, plus it is paired with an equally skinny pair of jeans. If this dress was any longer or fuller, it may not work as well. Paired with minimal accessories and super cute animal print open toed shoes, I'd say we have a winner!

Want to try out the minidress over jeans look for yourself? Look for mini styles, (this means well above the knee, and fitting snugly against the bod) in solid colors for the best results, and pair with skinny jeans and a heel.

I have some seriously mixed feelings about this new trend of jumper dresses...not that it's anything new. What was once a staple on the playground is now celebrity couture, and is reminiscent of last seasons' tube top/shorts jumper ensemble that everyone was wearing. What gives? How much longer can I stand it? Why must Hollywood fashionista's turn little girl togs into trends?

So here's the deal; my love hate relationship for jumpers runs deep. I love that they are so casual and cute; but I hate that they are so casual and cute. It seems odd how La Dunst and the Duff try to pair them with such frumpy shoes...I think that Nicky Hilton got it right in the shoe department. This look definitely calls for open toed shoes or sandals.

Which brings me to my other point; this is NOT a red carpet look. La Dunst and J. Simp do this look right by wearing them casually for fun in the sun and shopping sprees (although I think that we can all agree that Simpson could use a little more support...).

I love the giant buttons, I love the contrast piping, and I love the casual fun, but I think that I'm just sick of seeing these things dressed up already. Anyhow, tell us your thoughts on little girl style turned grown-up fashion pinafore dresses before this look is so last minute.

When Reebok launched a new line of shoes and apparel endorsed by actress Scarlett Johansson last month, it took a different approach to Internet marketing. Instead of buying ads on mass-audience portals like MySpace, as it had done for past campaigns, Reebok struck an exclusive online deal with fashion and lifestyle Web concern Glam Media.

Glam.com featuring a promotion for Reebok's new Scarlett Johansson line of shoes and apparel.

Glam worked with Reebok International, a unit of Adidas AG, to put together a marketing campaign aimed at young women that ranged from the traditional -- banner ads -- to less-traditional promotions that looked more like editorial features, such as interactive quizzes about Ms. Johansson and mentions in Glam blogs.

And the ads didn't show up just on Glam.com. Glam has assembled a network of roughly 300 similarly themed blogs, Web sites and magazines that it links to -- broadening Glam's reach. Glam's female-oriented network drew 10 million unique U.S. visitors in March, making it the second-largest women's online property after NBC Universal's iVillage, according to comScore Media Metrix.

"You are not just hitting one portal; you have thousands of these other sites. By showing up incrementally on these other sites, you are getting more bang for your buck," says Marc Fireman, head of digital marketing for Reebok.

Glam Media is one of several emerging Web networks that offers advertisers the chance to run narrowly targeted and heavily customized ad campaigns -- with customized the operative word. Lots of Web firms, of course, help advertisers target specific groups of people on different sites. What makes Glam and other networks, including female-oriented properties SheKnows and Sugar Publishing, stand out is their willingness to devise new marketing formats, ad executives say.

"They will bend over backwards for you. That's refreshing from a marketer's standpoint because sometimes you just feel like the partnership isn't a partnership on these big deals. It can be like pulling teeth," says Martin Reidy, president of Modem Media, an arm of digital marketing concern Digitas, itself a unit of Paris-based Publicis Groupe.

Modem Media worked with Glam to develop a campaign for Kraft Foods' Crystal Light low-calorie drink. Crystal Light is sponsoring an "Instant Color Therapy" quiz on Glam, where visitors can find out which color best fits their mood. Selecting "warm and cheery" for a mood reveals an array of orange apparel: a string bikini, an embroidered tunic, flip-flops -- and peach tea Crystal Light. This is the first time Modem has run a campaign for one of its clients on Glam, and the company says it is pleased thus far: The quiz is among the most popular on the site.

Glam has also shown it is willing to blur the line between editorial and advertising by, for instance, getting its sponsors mentioned in its network of blogs. While bloggers have editorial control over their sites, they're often receptive to anything that looks like news in the fashion, style and beauty areas. For example, Glam Media announced yesterday the launch of a handbag designer competition with Hearst Magazines' Marie Claire. During the day, a number of blogs noted the news with links back to the contest's site. In the Reebok campaign, the Glam-affiliated fashion blog "Couture in the City" recently posted an item about the Glam exclusive "Scarlett Hearts Rbk Giveaway."

Glam Media's founder, chairman and chief executive, Samir Arora, says Glam wants advertising that is both useful and entertaining, an approach he says isn't that different from the fashion magazine world. "Does [advertising] deter you from picking up Vogue? No. It actually enhances the experience," he says. "The key is in understanding when ads are desirable."

Mr. Arora, a Web entrepreneur who is also chairman of venture capital firm Information Capital LLC, started Glam in 2005 after noticing that most online advertisers focused on targeting males through search advertising. Women were underserved by new media, he believed.

To be sure, some brands are hesitant to associate with smaller networks that lack an established reputation. Instead, they are sticking with more-established sites such as iVillage, which was launched in 1995. "These smaller networks have a little bit of growing to do," says Cari Weisberger, senior partner and group director for WPP Group's Media Edge.

Here's what I will never understand: if you are young, beautiful, rich, famous and have a rockin' bod, wouldn't you want to dress to the nines? I mean seriously, wherever you go, you know you are going to be photographed, right?

I gotta give Mischa snaps for her salute to Fleetwood Mac/70's revival look, but I think that we all know that the high waisted jeans are right up there with pleats and acid wash.

It is my sad duty to report, however, that Kate's line appears to be a little bit of a snoozer. I expected something a little more avant-guard I guess...instead I got menswear meets glitter. Seriously...think trousers, button up shirts, tailored vests and sequined dresses. Yawn...it all seems like its so last season.

Anyways, if you are amongst the many that think Kate is the living end when it comes to fashion, check out her new line at Topshop available May 1...I know that I'll be skipping it, unfortunately, but who knows? Maybe there will be cuter lines by Kate on the horizon...

Who cares about the time honored tradition "thou shalt not wear white before labor day" (or is it after?). I will be the first to admit that I am not a big fan of the whole white jeans look...it reminds me too much of middle school and is just way too risky when Aunt Dot comes to visit, if you know what I mean.

However, there is nothing more polished than a crisp white dress and nothing more stand out and feminine than a snazzy white suit. But you have to know how to rock it.

Nicole Richie pairs her formal white dress with a pair of equally formal red satin heels for the perfect balance of trendy and classy. White or black shoes just wouldn't have worked here, and metallics are SO 2006...love it.
